Personal Profile
Peter is a practical, creative individual with a diverse portfolio of experience in teaching, performing and composing, and he has an extensive knowledge of studio and live sound engineering. Interested in music from a young age, he studied Composition at the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music under Joe Cutler and Lamberto Coccioli. During his time there, he was awarded the Creative Studies award in 2007.
During the time at university Peter became interested within installation sound art, an art form combining all of his skills, and he created many installations including ‘Staircase’ (2004), ‘Sofa’ (2005). As well as physical pieces, Peter has also worked in the online sphere, with his first significant work being ‘IMP – Interactive Music Project’ (2007) which was an online work allowing any number of people to create a piece of music together in real time. Recently, Peter has been working with the ObjectX collective, part of Project X Presents, working to create cross-medium works to transform spaces into interactive playgrounds.
As a teacher and animateur, Peter has experience working with a variety of different ages and user groups. As a professional composer, Peter has received commissions from the Destroyers (2006) and ACE dance and music (2007 & 2009) and plays with the Birmingham Improvisers Orchestra. Peter continued his passion for the technical side of music by gaining a NESTA grant to setup his own company called Bassnote, which operates as a mobile recording studio driven by a mission to develop innovate technologies within the field of music and sound.
